Empowering Our Communities Through Skills, Manufacturing, and Local Ownership

INTRODUCTION

At Baso Healthcare, we are more than a home care and nurse-led agency—we are a movement. Through our new Skills Development and Manufacturing Program, we aim to help communities build themselves up by offering practical skills training and sustainable business models.

We recognize that economic challenges are affecting millions of South Africans, and the youth in particular are vulnerable due to lack of opportunities. With this in mind, Baso Healthcare, in partnership with local municipalities, brings a bold solution: a community-owned toilet paper manufacturing initiative, supported by local service providers in security, cleaning, and transport.

This project is not charity. It’s about ownership, empowerment, and long-term change.

Our Motivation & Approach

We believe that:

  • Economy is the core of daily survival, and empowering communities with skills is the best way to fight poverty.
  • Charity begins at home, and that’s why we’re starting this initiative with the people it is meant to serve.
  • True change happens when the community owns the solution.

Many people have been disappointed by empty promises and unsupported programs. We understand the frustration. That’s why Baso Healthcare is committed to action, not just ideas.

We have driven through many areas, identified key issues, and believe the first problem to solve is a lack of meaningful opportunity.

  1. Program Details

Main Project: Toilet Paper Manufacturing

Toilet paper is a basic need in every home. But what if we turned it into a business opportunity? With the right support, this everyday product becomes a powerful tool for economic development.

The model includes:

  • Establishing community-run manufacturing sites
  • Training youth and unemployed individuals in production, packaging, and logistics
  • Ensuring the final product meets commercial-grade quality standards

This project provides not just jobs—but real skills, confidence, and future possibilities.

  1. Supporting Local Enterprises

The program is designed to create a ripple effect of economic growth by involving local service providers:

Security Services

To ensure the safety and success of the manufacturing sites, local security companies will be contracted—keeping the opportunity within the community.

Cleaning & Hygiene

We will hire local cleaning teams to maintain high cleanliness standards and safe work environments.

Transport & Logistics

Transportation is key—both for raw materials and finished products. We’ll partner with local transport operators to handle this critical function.

  1. Why This Program Works

Not all youth are academically inclined. Many excel in skills-based programs when given a chance. Baso Healthcare believes that skills—not just matric certificates—can open doors.

Our experience proves it:

  • We’ve implemented similar initiatives in Msinga, Impendle, Greytown, and Mpophomeni.
  • These communities now have successful young entrepreneurs, many of whom were part of our training programs.
  1. Community Ownership

This isn’t just Baso Healthcare’s idea—it belongs to the community. The project is designed so that:

  • The community owns the opportunity
  • Locals benefit directly from jobs and services
  • Hope is restored through visible, measurable success

When the community owns an idea, they protect it, build it, and help it thrive. This model builds dignity, responsibility, and pride.

  1. Long-Term Impact

With the right support:

  • We aim to produce at least 20 successful business people from this program
  • We will create opportunities for small businesses to grow around the project
  • We’ll combat youth crime by giving meaningful, structured alternatives
  • We will prove that building local economies doesn’t take millions—just a supported idea and a committed team
  1. Learning from the Past

We’ve studied previous models like those from Ithala that unfortunately collapsed due to lack of interest, poor leadership, and limited stakeholder support.

We’ve learned that:

  • You can’t teach practical solutions over the radio or TV
  • You need people on the ground, getting dirty, mentoring others, and making sure the work gets done
  1. Our Promise

We bring:

  • A dedicated and experienced team
  • High-quality infrastructure for manufacturing
  • A commitment to train, mentor, and support local youth and workers
  • A model that has worked before and will work again
  1. Our Vision for the Future

Our vision is to:

  • Build a legacy, not just a project
  • Turn everyday products into businesses
  • Help the community compete in the bigger market
  • Produce top-quality products that represent pride in local excellence
  1. Final Words

We don’t want to be a market for others—we want to own the ideas and drive the change. This is our community’s opportunity. With your partnership, we will succeed again.

Let’s work together to make something big from something small. Let’s empower ourselves with our own hands. Let’s build a better future for our generation.
